Picture: Stephen Tattersall As well as the church, the village was also home to Singleton Railway Station, a stop on the London, Brighton & South Coast Railway (LSBCR) from Chichester to Midhurst which opened on July 11, 1881. On the Chichester to Midhurst line, there were stations at Lavant and Cocking.

A rare undated photograph of Singleton railway station which was located between Kirkham & Wesham and Poulton-le-Fylde stations on the Preston to Fleetwood railway. The station closed on 05 May 1932. Terry Daniel collection. There is now no trace of the former station and sidings.

But more unique to Singleton itself, is the story behind its lost railway station which was built in 1881. Sitting on the former line between Chichester and Midhurst it was built in 'Country House' style, with ample waiting room for passengers.
